Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS of this job description include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the mission, vision, and core values of the organization.
  • Carpentry: Performs basic rough and finished carpentry repair of structures such as partitions, walls, doors, fences, window frames, office furniture, roofs, and shelves.
  • Glazier: Removes broken glass, putty or plastic; replaces windows and door hardware; replaces glass for windows, doors, and light fixtures.
  • Electrical: Performs basic electrical repair work for switches, outlets, plugs, cables, heating, appliances, and lighting systems; reports unsafe electrical conditions.
  • Plumbing: Identifies and performs basic repairs of plumbing leaks or breaks; opens clogged lines and drains; replaces seals and other minor parts; maintains drinking fountains; repairs, replaces and maintains hot water heaters and other appliances .
  • Painting: applies and prepares various surfaces for paint, enamel, lacquer, varnish, or stain; removes or paints over graffiti; repairs wall coverings.
  • Grounds Maintenance: Maintains grounds in clean, safe, and orderly manner including mowing, trimming, weeding, aerating, minor pest management, composting and fertilizing lawns; replaces plants as needed; sets sprinklers; replaces broken sprinkler heads; adjusts automatic time clocks and system pressure if necessary; cleans debris from grounds, pathways, and parking lots; maintains grounds maintenance equipment; prunes trees and shrubs.
  • Inspect alarm systems (fire, protection) and schedule repairs when needed.
  • Provides patients and the general public with care keeping patient rights and ethical concerns in mind.
  • Maintains a clean, safe and orderly environment throughout the department and the organization.
  • Maintains competency and participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Creates and maintains a positive and trustworthy community image and respectful attitude.
  • Possesses a strong customer and service to others
  • Participates in team approach throughout the organization.
  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned in an efficient, effective and cost conscious manner, complying with all hospital policies, procedures, and regulations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, QUALIFICATION and EDUCATIONAL AND /OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proven experience as Maintenance Technician
  • Basic understanding of electrical, hydraulic and other systems
  • Knowledge of general maintenance processes and methods (e.g. locksmith competence)
  • Working knowledge of tools, common appliances and devices
  • Manual dexterity and problem-solving skills
  • Good physical condition and strength with a willingness to work overtime
  • High school diploma or equivalent; Certificate in HVAC, building maintenance technology or relevant field preferred
  • Ability to:

    • manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and to prioritize scheduling of work
    • maintain confidentiality of all medical, financial, and legal information

    • handle difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or others in a professional manner
  • Provide excellent customer service skills and basic computer skills required
  • Possesses good interpersonal skills, initiative, integrity, flexibility, adaptability, and must be a team player

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS:

May be exposed to patient elements, prolonged, extensive or considerable standing/walking, sitting, bending/twisting, kneeling/squatting, reaching, climbing and should be able to lift 50 or more pounds using proper lifting techniques. Rapidly changing and stressful environment. Ability to communicate with various levels of people. Possible exposure to communicable and infectious disease and hazardous materials. Occasional exposure to unpleasant patient or unit elements (accidents, injuries and illness). Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances. Subject to varying and unpredictable situations. Handles emergency or crisis situations. Subject to many interruptions. Occasional pressure due to multiple tasks and inquiries.
