Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS of this job description include but are not limited to:

  • Provides radiology services by directing and coordinating the services of radiology and diagnostic imaging procedures; overseeing staff in operation of imaging equipment.
  • Provides a safe environment by monitoring radioactive exposure of staff and patients; keeping free from hazards for patients and personnel.
  • Must maintain patient records of radiology services.
  • Supports patient care by resolving radiology issues with physicians, radiologists, radiology technologists, and ancillary staff; improving and maintaining quality assurance program for department functions.
  • Staffing & Delivery of Care: must staff qualified radiologists, supervise radiology services, and interpret radiologic tests that require a radiologist's specialized knowledge.
  • Provides staff and patient education, assist in identifying patient/family needs; and implements measures to meet those needs.
  • Communicates effectively with all levels of people.
  • Functions as a contributing team member.
  • Maintains competency and environment of care.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities
  • Promotes positive public relations to physicians, patients, visitors, other employees, and the community.
  • Provides for patients’/significant others’ rights and safety; strives to manage situations in a manner to reduce risk while following legal and regulatory standards.
  • Performs other tasks and duties as assigned in an efficient, effective and cost conscious manner, complying with all hospital policies, procedures, and regulations.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Creates an environment in which needs of staff can be met so they develop and exhibit a high level of productivity and commitment to the hospital and can meet the needs of patients, departmental customers, co-workers, and others they encounter during their work.  Actively contributes to the morale and teamwork of the staff and facility and always presents a positive attitude and patient-minded vision with patient satisfaction as the continuing goal.

 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, QUALIFICATION and EDUCATIONAL AND /OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduate of an approved or accredited school of Radiology. Bachelor of Science degree preferred.
  • Must have knowledge of principles and procedures of diagnostic radiography and operation of radiographic equipment and five (5) years supervisory experience.
  • Current certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT).
  • Current basic life support (BLS) required or must complete within first six months of employment and maintained. 
  • Must demonstrate a basic knowledge of administrative skills (Microsoft Office and other management software, filing, typing, telephone courtesy, scheduling, etc.)
  • Ability to:
    • determine appropriate course of action in more complex situations
    • work independently, exercise creativity, be attentive to detail, and maintain a positive attitude
    • manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and to prioritize scheduling of work
    • maintain confidentiality of all medical, financial, and legal information
    • complete work assignments accurately and in a timely manner
    • communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
    • handle difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or others in a professional manner

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS /WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Exposed to ionizing radiation.                                                                                        
  • High stress, fast pace area.
  • Extended periods of standing.
  • Cool to cold environment 100% of the time.
  • Required to lift heavy patients/objects (40 pounds or more).
  • Exposure to blood/blood products and infectious diseases.
  • Exposure to electrical equipment.
  • Flexible hours and shifts are required.
